Are you looking for kitchen design inspiration, then read our latest post. Our post will firstly cover what inspired us, secondly the collection selected by the client, thirdly how we brought in ergonomics into the kitchen design and finally what worktop material was chosen.
Undoubtedly the owners of this beautiful home in Cape Town wanted a sophisticated and refined kitchen design. But customised to fit in with their lifestyle and love of entertaining.
The iconic Table Mountain and Atlantic Ocean provided inspiration to the kitchen design team. Together with the meticulous style of the clients.
The owners selected the Genius Loci (from Latin meaning “spirit of place”) from our kitchen collection. This collection specifically takes its inspiration from the ‘secretaire’ or traditional writing desk with its secret drawers.
The collection offers two versions to choose from when designing your kitchen. The first version for drawers, which has a slight projection at the bottom which creates a handle, is angled. This handle reflects the light. In addition, this also highlights the tactile surfaces and hand-crafted elements one can choose from.
Whereas the other option, is more “minimalist” and aligns perfectly with the kitchen doors. Likewise the beauty of the outside of the drawers is matched by the functionality inside the drawers. Inside, one finds a crafted space that offers variously organized and dedicated areas for utensils. This has been designed especially for those that love cooking and like everything perfectly organized in their kitchen. This owners selected this option.
Ergonomics allowing freedom of movement
The height of the island has also been customised to fit the owner’s height. It should be noted that a kitchen worktop that has been designed too high or too low forces unnatural strain on your back. This is one of the ways that we ensured ergonomically that this kitchen suited its owners perfectly. A Walnut Veneer breakfast table created an extension to the kitchen island. The breakfast table sits flush with the drawers. This provides a welcoming space for guests and family to be part of the activities in the kitchen.
The material selected for the kitchen worktop is Cardoso Stone. A natural grey coloured stone with particular white veins. Without a doubt this stone worktop created a centrepiece that is most definitely a conversation piece. Cardoso Stone is very resistant to scratches, stains, corrosion and is easy to clean. If you are looking to design a kitchen with a robust, timeless kitchen worktop, the Cardoso stone is perfect choice.
